Students at the SELFsustain Conference 2016 represented the Twin Cities, Duluth, Morris, and Crookston campuses and talked about their sustainability projects and goals during the two day gathering.

Morris Model Team Recognized at Minnesota State Fair

The City of Morris was chosen as a finalist for the Clean Energy Community Award given by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. A recognition ceremony for the finalists took place at the Minnesota State Fair on August 28, 2016 at the ExoExperience building. The Morris Model received the award for Achievement in October.

Morris Delegates Visit Saerbeck, Germany

Students in Saerbeck, Germany installed some of the solar panels on the roof of their school, the Maximilian Kolbe Gesamtschule. About 537 solar panels total provide a peak energy generation of 96.66 kW

The city of Muenster includes many pedestrian and cyclist friendly paths for an easy and zero carbon mode of transportation. There are streets, such as the Promenade ( 4.5 km), that are only for bikes and walking.

Zero-emission transportation is highly encourages in Muenster and many other towns in Germany by the creation of many bike and walking paths and fewer parking spaces in the city.

Rural Climate Diologue 2016

On September 8th and 9th, citizens from Stevens County participated in the Rural Climate Dialogue State Convening held in St. Paul. In attendance were Troy Goodnough, Rickey Scott, John Geleneau, Don Reicosky, Kelly Asche (from left to right) and Becky Young (missing from picture).

The State Convening event was an opportunity for participants to learn how other rural communities are thinking about -- and preparing for -- extreme weather and climate challenges in Minnesota. The event also provided an opportunity to visit with statewide organizations and recommend ideas for how these agencies could support rural areas working on community resilience planning.

UMN Students Visit Partnership City in Saerbeck, Germany

Students and faculty of UMN visit the North Rhein Westphalia (NRW) Energy Ministry and hear from various speakers about policies and developments regarding clean energy in NRW and Germany.

Morris Model Receives Local Government Innovation Award

The Morris Model Team accepted the Local Government Innovation Award in the "Cities" category on December 7, 2017. This award honors cities which have demonstrated outstanding leadership in improving city infrastructure, planning, and, in the case of Morris, sustainability.
